For more than 20 years\, YWA has been a staple in the Austin community\, driven by our four pillars: lead\, educate\, network\, and serve. Join us for our monthly Speaker Series\, an event that is free for members and welcomes community leaders with inspirational stories and accomplishments. Our September speaker is Denise Hernandez. Denise will be speaking on equity in philanthropy.Denise Hernandez is a lawyer and social impact leader. She currently serves as the Deputy Director of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion at the Travis County Attorney's Office\, working on criminal justice reform. Denise started her career representing survivors of domestic violence in low-income communities. She later became an Assistant District Attorney\, helping survivors of domestic violence and child abuse. In addition to her professional work\, Denise is a community activist. In 2017\, she launched Hustle for the Cause\, an organization dedicated to social impact work. Then in 2018\, she created Chingona Fest Texas\, an annual Latinx empowerment festival. Denise and her wife later launched the KDH Giving Fund\, a grant fund focused on creating social change through inclusive and equitable philanthropy. Denise has been nationally recognized for her community activism\, honored as an Anne McAfee Leader of Cultural Change\, and named a young Latinx distinguished leader in 2020.
