August Speaker Series at Home with Leslie Wingo

Wednesday, August 19, 2020 (6:30 PM - 8:30 PM) (CDT)

Description

The Young Women’s Alliance (YWA) is an organization devoted to the professional and personal development of women leaders in Central Texas. For more than 20 years, YWA has been a staple in the Austin community, driven by our four pillars: lead, educate, network, and serve. YWA hosts a Monthly Speaker Series that is free for members and welcomes community leaders with inspirational stories and accomplishments. Join us for the August Speaker Series at home featuring Leslie Wingo, who will be having a conversation with us on becoming more aware of who you are, especially in this time of COVID and BLM, and how we can be in action to create positive change.

Leslie “Badass” Wingo is a 20-year advertising veteran, keynote speaker, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) advocate, wife and mom, and unabashed wine lover.

As President and CEO, she leads Sanders\Wingo, a Texas-based independent creative firm that leverages cultural fluency and behavioral economics to create results-driven work for brands like USPS, Burger King, AT&T, KFC, and State Farm. Under Wingo’s leadership, Sanders\Wingo emphasizes the human element of marketing, giving clients viable, right-on marketing strategies through impactful storytelling. An integral part of the agency’s growth, Wingo is a community leader in marketing, cultural diversity, social welfare issues.

A powerhouse speaker with TEDx on her list of credits, Wingo uses her platform as a DEI expert to educate audiences on the social and business impacts of bias, stereotypes, and labels we place on one another. An advocate for women and marginalized voices, Wingo believes in giving back whenever possible and volunteers her time with organizations that share her commitment to diversity. She has served as Director and Committee Chair roles on several boards, including the Austin Advertising Federation, the American Heart Association of Texas, the American Lung Association, the Austin Planetarium, The Contemporary Austin and AIDS Services of Austin.

Though she’s had many labels put on her throughout her career, “badass” is one she proudly owns. In 2011, Wingo was awarded the Silver Medal by the Austin Advertising Federation for her contributions to advancing the advertising industry’s standards, creative excellence, and responsibility in areas of social concern. The following year, she was named among the “Top Women Executives in Advertising & Marketing” in Black Enterprise magazine’s Women of Power issue, and in 2014, Wingo won the Austin Business Journal’s 2014 Women of Influence Award.

Leslie Wingo is a proud Texas native and holds a BBA in Marketing from the University of Texas at El Paso. She lives in Austin with her husband and two kids, and she loves a good story over a great glass of wine. Of all the labels she’s been given and roles she plays in life, “wife” and “mom” are her favorites.
