The Young Women’s Alliance (YWA) is an organization devoted to the professional and personal development of women leaders in Central Texas. For more than 20 years, YWA has been a staple in the Austin community, driven by our four pillars: lead, educate, network, and serve. Join us for our monthly Speaker Series, an event that is free for members and welcomes community leaders with inspirational stories and accomplishments. Our October speaker is Heather Emerson. 

Heather's mission is to change food through strengthening local food systems so that everybody wins: the community, our health, our planet. In 2016, she founded Prep To Your Door in an effort to make that a reality. Heather has spent the last 15 years rebuilding her life after being incarcerated for one year. Her promise upon release was to grow, be honest, and do good things.

She graduated from University of Texas with dual degrees in Mathematics and Linguistics, and in 2020 with her Masters from Harvard University.

She is currently co-leading a team of 25 people to provide organic, plant- based meals to hard-working Texans, all with a zero-waste mission. Prep To Your Door has a 7-figure annual revenue without a dollar of outside funding.

To date, the company has saved over a million pieces of plastic from the landfills and oceans, and sourced over 100,000 pounds of Texas-grown produce. All of this done by 100% self-funded.

Her proudest accomplishment is winning "FAVE Sustainable Business" in 2019, being a finalist of Austin Under 40 Awards and being invited to the board of Truth Be Told in 2020.

Event location: 5540 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78756. This event is in person at Impact Hub North. 

Event schedule: Networking from 6:30-7, announcements at 7, speaker from 7:10-8 

Dress code: Come as you are!
